WASHINGTON — The Nexus Project commends Ranking Member Jamie Raskin and the House Judiciary Committee for demanding accountability from the Department of Justice following whistleblower reports that senior Trump Administration officials manipulated Title VI antisemitism investigations whose outcome had already been decided to punish universities for political reasons. These officials allegedly used the fight against antisemitism as cover for a campaign against institutions of higher education. Vice President of Government Relations, Kevin Rachlin, said:
“We join Ranking Member Raskin and the Judiciary Committee in demanding that this administration answer for turning the fight against antisemitism into a political weapon. As we have testified before Congress, Jewish students and faculty deserve investigations conducted in good faith — not contrived as a pretext for punishing universities the administration had already decided to go after.”
According to the allegations, DOJ officials pursued predetermined outcomes against elite universities regardless of the evidence, coerced schools into costly settlements, and froze grant funding in the name of protecting Jewish students — even after career DOJ staff concluded no Title VI violation existed.
Antisemitism is real, and it deserves serious, evidence-based investigation and response. The whistleblower report describes a gross exploitation of Jewish Americans’ legitimate fears — using our community’s safety as a pretext to punish political opponents and gut academic freedom. That betrays the very people these investigations claimed to protect.
The Nexus Project calls on the House Judiciary Committee to pursue this investigation to its full conclusion, and on the Department of Justice to provide complete, unredacted answers to Ranking Member Raskin’s questions. Combating antisemitism requires credibility and trust. An investigation built on predetermined outcomes and political targets undermines that fight and leaves no one safer.
