Nexus Project, a center-left counterweight to the conservative Anti-Defamation League, argues that left-wing proponents of the Israel conspiracy theory share a central element of traditional Great Replacement logic. Nexus writes:
“while the rightwing version of the conspiracy theory blaming Israel retains its disdain for brown immigrants… figures like Hasan Piker, Ana Kasparian,** and Susan Abulhawa frame their logic as sympathetic to Moroccans: they are just victims of Israel.”
While there are some important distinctions and Great Replacement is an essentially right-wing conspiracy theory, to both the Right and Left migrants from the Global South, far from being individuals capable of making their own decisions about fleeing poverty and desperation, are simply pawns in a larger plot to exploit them to destabilize wealthier European nations. As Nexus concludes, “Framing it as anti-imperialist doesn’t make it less racist or demeaning to the subjects.”
